"Never have we felt the nearness of Armageddon and the urgency of our work as we do now"
The org saw a tremendous increase of membership leading up to 1975, even when the expected disappointment died away afterwards, the zombies carried on wearing their Watchtower brand superfine blinkers...and carried on regardless. If it worked then, the reasoning is that it will work again.
If you are on the governing body of a doomsday cult you have to keep the hype going, that’s what makes the money, it’s your job to keep it going. It’s your job to think up new stories to bamboozle your innocent followers, all “Bible based” of course.
If you can rake in two billion Dollars a year from bank investments and by draining the punters family wealth, then nothing is going to stop you from ensuring the smooth running of your sacred cash-cow. Neither by transgressing moral boundaries nor making expedient doctrinal changes will stop the Watchtower governance from safeguarding their sacred commission: hanging on to their privileged role at the top of the dung-heap, having handed down to them from Russell and Rutherford, the poison chalice of the perpetual imminence of the end of the world.
Wakey wakey Jehovah's Witnesses!
